Why Hire a Restoration Company.
Why Hire a Restoration Company
When a disaster strikes, even if it is a small one, you can have hidden issues that you may not think about. Whether it’s a flood from your washing machine or a leaky roof, the moisture left behind can cause mold inside the walls and ceiling if not properly dried out. Hidden mold does not only smells bad, it can be a health risk, leading to allergic reactions, asthma or worse.
Damage other than water, such as smoke and soot from a fire or furnace back up, if not cleaned properly, can also cause health issues.
J.D. Donahoe, the owner of Nature Coast Restoration, has seen his share of home disasters throughout Central Florida, and his advice to homeowners after a disaster is to “try and relax as much as possible.” Restoration companies, such as Donahoe’s, specialize in restoring homes back to pre-loss condition and they understand the angst of the homeowner — they see disasters daily.
“The biggest mistake most homeowners make is they do not call a professional after a disaster,” said Donahoe. According to him, a company that does not specialize in restoration work will miss items that should be replaced and areas that should be cleaned and in some cases, will try to cut corners to increase profits. The price most insurance companies pay is based on a computer estimate of the work done, and companies that are not certified in restoration work will typically shortchange the homeowner’s job.
“People cause most disasters in the home trying to do home repairs themselves,” said Donahoe. Poorly done do-it-yourself projects in plumbing, electrical and roofing can lead to thousands of dollars in damage.
Professionals who are trained in home pollution can ascertain the problems others cannot.
